Ok. So from the blog observational standpoint, our journey may appear to be rose tinted and idealistic. WRONG. Today proved that our 2 month Eurotrip isn’t a fairytale. Sigh. I made a big mistake regarding our flight out of Ireland.
6:00 Departure time on RyanAir DOES NOT = 6:00 pm or 18:00. Silly, Lisa! So… F@&$. Yeah. We missed our flight to connect with the Moms. And we spent the night flinging ourselves between McDonald’s and misc. food court booths, trying to catch a wink of sleep. 12 hours and 250 Euros later, we were back on track to Paris … Oi!
Lesson learned: ALWAYS, always validate departure times prior to departure, including military time!
Thanks for you patience and hugs, Alix! I heart you.
P.S. For the record, Paula and Debra were flawless in their travels from Seattle to our hotel in Paris (They wanted to make sure that you were aware of this fact)!
He eats shirts! Beware – he’s not as cuddly/cute as he looks!
Apparently I entered into this European challenge a bit self assured. I’ve spent many a month traveling and living abroad in Latin America and never blinked an eye at coming across the sea without a detailed plan. I know you run into the occasional challenge; missed bus, lack of veggie options, a phrase lost in translation. But that is part of what makes traveling like this so fun. Normal everyday tasks are a huge challenge. And when you accomplish that challenge, like ordering a cup of coffee or figuring out the subway system, it makes you feel like a champ and like you can accomplish anything.
When I have been abroad in the past, I have LOVED those challenges. But on day 3 of our trip, after FOUR hours of calling, interneting, reading, discussing places to stay… And still homeless for the next three nights, I was actually frustrated. I have never had such a difficult time finding a place to stay. Everyone is booked right now. And I mean EVERYONE. And who knew that would be one of the challenges we faced this early on in the trip? Then again, we are in Germany during Oktoberfest… I just didn’t think it would effect the entire country!
