In addition to the Alhambra, Tapas, Sierra Nevadas and Arab Infusion, Granada is also know for having some of the most beautiful modern wall painting in Spain. Although we missed the walking graffiti tour, we saw many traces of this pop culture art form and were amazed by the vibrant colors and expressive nature.
We also followed the written graffiti of a university professor who writes obscure and crude words on walls throughout the Albacin. This “art form” was highly entertaining and made our tour guide blush at describing it’s meaning. Art comes in all forms, and this 65 year old sociology teacher proved a funny point. Naughty professor!
On our walk through Avignon this evening, Debra spotted a double-decker merry-go-round and couldn’t get carnival out of her mind. On our third pass of the child’s ride, we were all obliged to take part in the youthful festivities and found that we quite enjoyed ourselves. We even managed to name our plastic colts/fillies. Oh boy!
Ok. So from the blog observational standpoint, our journey may appear to be rose tinted and idealistic. WRONG. Today proved that our 2 month Eurotrip isn’t a fairytale. Sigh. I made a big mistake regarding our flight out of Ireland.
6:00 Departure time on RyanAir DOES NOT = 6:00 pm or 18:00. Silly, Lisa! So… F@&$. Yeah. We missed our flight to connect with the Moms. And we spent the night flinging ourselves between McDonald’s and misc. food court booths, trying to catch a wink of sleep. 12 hours and 250 Euros later, we were back on track to Paris … Oi!
Lesson learned: ALWAYS, always validate departure times prior to departure, including military time!
Thanks for you patience and hugs, Alix! I heart you.
P.S. For the record, Paula and Debra were flawless in their travels from Seattle to our hotel in Paris (They wanted to make sure that you were aware of this fact)!
Um, yeah. I am not known to be much of a whiskey or scotch drinker. In fact, the only times I can recollect drinking either are the times when I stole sips from Sean in the Bryant house. Each time I tasted the alcohol, it sent shivers down my spine. Yuck!
Anyhow …
As a result of our trip to the Jameson Distillery and being selected to do a blind whiskey and scotch tasting, I received a new certification: “Qualified Irish Whiskey Taster.”
Oh boy! I’m thinking about adding it to my resume, right next to my certifications in project management and fine arts!
This is why I love canines. Every time you walk through the front gate they are there waiting to greet you with a big slobbery smile. What else on this earth can make you feel more important, more loved?! Ron. The perfect dog. From the perfect vacation from a vacation. Portoroz, Slovenia. This is him waiting at the entryway of our apartment, sad knowing he is not supposed to cross the threashold. So well behaved!
Oh, so that’s why all the hostels were booked! Because some broad shouldered, long haired motzart looking conductor was putting on a massive concert on the middle of Heidelberg. It was fantastic. Lights, cameras, a full orchestra, even a glokenspeil! We watched in awe as they played traditional music and the locals hummed along. Apparently it was a pretty big deal, seeing as the concert headlined the front page of the paper the next day… And don’t worry Mom, we did find a place to stay!
