Le Double V

I admit it: Lisa and I are old. We are not on this trip to party all night or to spend all our time in bars. We just dont have that kind of energy anymore. Besides, we’d much rather wake up early and take advantage of what the day has to offer! However, if the atmosphere and the company is right… We might just take a stool at the bar… And never leave!

Such a situation occured at Le Double V in Avignon, France. We were drawn in by the atmosphere and kept there by the most sincere hospitality of the bartender/owner and had the best conversation with the owner of the art store across the street… We just never wanted to leave! They made us new and interesting drinks, fed us deliscious food, they even let us put on “Thriller” so we could feel like for mere three minutes that we were having a real Haloween…

So, if Avignon is ever on your itinerary DEFINITELY check this place out! You’ll love it, I guarentee!

As the post from 10/30 alludes to, these pictures illustrate just how relaxed and happy we all were by this point of our great French escape. Mmmm…

Venus di Milo, Nike of Samothrace and Mona. What images of beauty, strength, purpose and character! The game is on to find each of these qualities in our daily lives…

Will we ever live up to HER standards in this life? It’s a good thing Alix and I have a lot of life to live. There is a lot of work to be done!

Welcome to Paris, Ladies. Can you see the mischievous gleam in their eyes? We’re not sure if the city is ready for these women…

Cecelia!

“Cecelia … You’re breaking my heart … You’re shaking my confidence daily … Oh Cecelia, I am down on my knees. I’m begging you please to come home…”

While Rome was amazing for its history, culture, pasta and perfect weather, our time in this city would have been much different if we hadn’t met Cecelia. Oh what a vibrant character our friend, Cecelia, is!

One day in August Cecelia decided that she needed to leave her home in Argentina and see the world, so she contacted a friend in Paris and determined that she’d embark on a one year solitary journey ten days later. Done.

At age 27 Cecelia left all things familiar and greeted Europe with contagious charisma, humorous frugality and an open mind. Fortunately for Alix and me, we bumped into this kind spirit at our Roman hostel and couldn’t have been more grateful for the short amount of time spent together.

With this bundle of energy, we tromped through the pouring morning rain, advanced to the front of the line for the Vatican Museums, viewed hundreds of classical Roman sculptures, worshipped the Sistene Chapel, shared a delicious Pizza lunch, spotted the Panthenon, hugged the Colosseum, trekked through the Roman Forum ruins, checked out a Gay Parade, got lost twice and giggled over a pint of Italian beer.

Through all these experiences, we were impressed by Cecelia’s ability to converse in English, Spanish and Italian as well as her gift to connect with a variety of strangers. She accurately expressed her values, goals and hopes (which we found to be similar to our own) in a foreign language throughout the day, which really impressed us.

Cecelia reminded us to be positive, youthful and excited for every moment of the day. She is definitely living under the “Carpe Diem” model, and for showing us this side of life, we thank Cecelia.

Clever conversation in Nurnberg

We shared a table with 4 interesting and kind Germans at the smaller scale Oktoberfest in Nurnberg. The conversation and exposure to the German culture made this a favorite for sure.

By far the coolest thing we saw in Frankfurt…

We were interrupted from a relaxing river nap only to be hassled by a bike powered by 10 guys singing and drinking beer. Much to our disappointment, we were not extended an invite. Sniff. Sniff.
